Stripped of all autonomy and vitality, the Day Master cannot stand independently. Instead of fighting a losing battle for balance, the Day Master survives by surrendering its own identity and conforming to the most overwhelmingly dominant qi in the chart.

In a cong ge bazi, the definition of the Yong Shen changes completely. Because the Day Master has surrendered to the dominant force, the dominant force itself becomes the Yong Shen. Any element that supports or protects this dominant force is also considered favorable. Conversely, the elements that would normally help a weak Day Master—Resource and Companion—become highly destructive. Their appearance in a luck cycle forces the Day Master to suddenly assert an independence it cannot sustain, leading to structural collapse. Follow Wealth Structure Explained

The Follow Wealth (Cong Cai, 从财) structure manifests when the chart is entirely dominated by the Wealth element. In the cycle of the Five Elements, Wealth is the phase of qi that the Day Master conquers and controls. However, in this specific structural anomaly, the Day Master is too weak to exert control. Instead, the sheer volume of Direct Wealth or Indirect Wealth qi in the stems and branches forces the Day Master to submit to the very element it was designed to govern.

For this structure to be pure, the Wealth element must be rooted and pervasive, often forming a directional combination or a three-harmony combination in the earthly branches. The Day Master abandons its ego to serve the flow of capital, resources, and practical reality.

The favorable elements in a Follow Wealth structure are clearly defined by their relationship to the dominant qi: * Wealth is the primary favorable element, as it maintains the core structural integrity of the chart. * Output (Eating God and Hurting Officer) is highly favorable because it generates and continuously feeds the Wealth element, ensuring a steady flow of qi. * Power (Direct Officer and Seven Killings) is favorable because it acts as a defense mechanism. It exhausts the Companion element, which is the natural enemy of Wealth.

The unfavorable elements are those that threaten the dominant Wealth qi. The Companion element is the most destructive force, as it directly attacks and divides Wealth. The Resource element is also highly detrimental; it drains the Power element and attempts to artificially inflate the Day Master, causing the Day Master to rebel against its necessary surrender.

Follow Power Structure Explained

A Follow Power (Cong Guan Sha, 从官杀) structure occurs when the Day Master is surrounded and overwhelmed by the Power element, represented by Direct Officer or Seven Killings. Power is the phase of qi that controls, disciplines, and restricts the Day Master. In a normal chart, excessive Power without Resource to mediate it creates immense pressure and physical or structural vulnerability. In a follower chart, however, the Day Master lacks the root to resist and simply merges with the prevailing authority.

This structure requires the Power element to be the absolute commanding force in the chart. The individual's life trajectory often aligns with strict hierarchies, institutional authority, or rigorous systemic discipline. They succeed not by asserting their own will, but by becoming a flawless instrument of a larger organizational or authoritative force.

The mechanics of favorable and unfavorable elements in this structure operate strictly to protect the commanding Power qi: * Power is the primary favorable element, maintaining the absolute authority within the chart. * Wealth is highly favorable because it generates and sustains the Power element. * Resource can sometimes be tolerated if it does not interfere with the Power element's dominance, but it is generally viewed with caution as it drains Power to feed the Day Master.

The absolute most destructive element in a Follow Power structure is Output. Output represents rebellion, expression, and the dismantling of systems. Because Output directly clashes with and destroys Power, its appearance in a luck pillar shatters the dominant qi. When the authority that the Day Master has surrendered to is destroyed, the structural integrity of the chart collapses entirely, often correlating with severe systemic failures in the individual's environment.

Follow Child Structure Explained

The Follow Child (Cong Er, 从儿) structure derives its name from the Output elements—Eating God and Hurting Officer. Because Output is the phase of qi generated by the Day Master, it is metaphorically referred to as the "child." In this structure, the Day Master exhausts its nonexistent strength entirely into the creation of Output. The chart is flooded with intellect, expression, and forward-moving momentum.

A critical rule distinguishes the Follow Child structure from other follower charts: the overwhelming Output qi must have a place to go. Output must flow into Wealth. If a chart possesses overwhelming Output but entirely lacks the Wealth element, the qi stagnates. The structural flow is blocked, resulting in a chart that possesses immense theoretical capacity but lacks practical execution. Therefore, the presence of Wealth is a strict prerequisite for a high-functioning Follow Child structure.

The favorable and unfavorable elements follow the logic of continuous generation: * Output is the primary favorable element, dictating the creative and intellectual momentum of the chart. * Wealth is essential and highly favorable, as it provides a channel for the Output to manifest into tangible results. * Companion elements are uniquely tolerated and even considered favorable in this specific follower chart. Because Companion generates Output, it feeds the dominant trend rather than disrupting it.

The most destructive force in a Follow Child chart is the Resource element. Resource represents suppression of expression and the direct restriction of Output. A clash between Resource and Output severs the vital flow of the chart. Power is also unfavorable, as it drains the Wealth element and can provoke a clash with the dominant Output qi.

Follow Trend Structure Explained

Unlike the previous three structures, the Follow Trend (Cong Shi, 从势) structure does not possess a single, overwhelming phase of qi. Instead, the chart is characterized by a coalition of three elements: Wealth, Power, and Output. The Day Master remains entirely weak, devoid of root and Resource, but it faces a multi-polar environment rather than a single dictatorship of qi.

In a Follow Trend chart, the Day Master surrenders to the combined momentum of the elements that drain, control, and exhaust it. The structural analysis here requires careful observation of the exact proportions of Wealth, Power, and Output to determine the mediating element. The flow of qi must remain unobstructed among the three dominant forces.

Typically, Wealth acts as the crucial linchpin in a Follow Trend structure. Because Output generates Wealth, and Wealth generates Power, the Wealth element serves as the bridge that prevents Output and Power from clashing directly. If Wealth is strong and well-placed, the chart operates smoothly, allowing the individual to navigate complex environments, adapt to shifting circumstances, and harmonize conflicting external demands.

The favorable elements shift depending on the specific balance of the coalition, but generally, any of the three dominant elements (Wealth, Power, Output) can be favorable as long as they do not disrupt the internal flow. The unfavorable elements remain strictly defined: Companion and Resource. The introduction of Companion or Resource attempts to anchor a Day Master that has already committed to flowing with the external current, creating friction and structural breakdown.

True Versus Fake Follower Charts

The purity of the Day Master's surrender determines the structural grade of the chart. We categorize this distinction by classifying charts as either a True Follower (Zhen Cong, 真从) or a Fake Follower (Jia Cong, 假从). This differentiation is critical for forecasting the stability of the individual's life trajectory.

A True Follower chart is exceptionally clean. The Day Master has absolutely zero roots in the earthly branches and receives zero support from Resource elements in the heavenly stems. The surrender is absolute, willing, and unresisting. Because the internal structure is entirely unified behind the dominant qi, True Follower charts tend to experience smoother trajectories, provided the luck pillars do not introduce unfavorable elements.

A Fake Follower chart presents a more complex scenario. The Day Master is overwhelmingly weak and the chart is heavily dominated by Wealth, Power, or Output, but a flaw exists. This flaw is usually a weak, damaged, or hidden root, or an isolated, unsupported Resource element. To identify these flaws, we must rigorously examine the hidden stems within the earthly branches, always observing the strict hierarchy of main qi, middle qi, and residual qi. Even a residual qi Companion element buried in a branch constitutes a root.

In a Fake Follower chart, the Day Master is forced to surrender by circumstances, but it retains a sliver of ego or independence due to that hidden root. This creates internal friction. The individual often experiences turbulence, hesitation, or environmental resistance because the surrender is incomplete. We refer to this lingering root or Resource as the "disease" of the chart.

The resolution of a Fake Follower chart depends entirely on the Luck Pillars (Da Yun, 大运). When a ten-year luck pillar arrives carrying an element that clashes away, combines with, or otherwise neutralizes the lingering root or Resource, the "disease" is cured. The Fake Follower suddenly transforms into a True Follower. This mechanical shift often correlates with periods of sudden, dramatic elevation in status, wealth, or clarity, as the internal friction is finally removed. Conversely, if a luck pillar strengthens that weak root, the Day Master attempts to stand up against the dominant force, resulting in severe misfortune.

Life Scripts of Follower Charts

The life script of a follower chart bazi diverges sharply from that of a normal structure. Normal structures, which seek balance, tend to correlate with steady, incremental progression. They possess a degree of internal resilience because the chart's architecture is designed to withstand fluctuations in external qi. Follower charts, by contrast, operate on a paradigm of extremes. They possess exceptionally high ceilings for success but equally low floors for failure.

Because the Day Master in a follower chart has surrendered its autonomy, the individual's trajectory is almost entirely dependent on external forces. Their success relies on perfect alignment with prevailing market trends, authoritative structures, or collective movements. When the external environment (represented by the luck pillars) supports the dominant qi of the chart, the rise is exponential. The individual becomes a flawless conduit for the dominant energy, achieving results far beyond what a balanced chart might accomplish.

However, this reliance on external momentum creates inherent fragility. The rules of the Yong Shen are inverted, meaning the very elements that provide safety and self-reliance to most people—Resource (education, support, stability) and Companion (independence, peer networks)—act as destructive agents. When a luck pillar introduces strong Resource or Companion qi to a True Follower, the Day Master is suddenly infused with a false sense of independence. It breaks its submission and attempts to fight the dominant forces of the chart. Because the dominant forces are overwhelmingly powerful, this rebellion results in a catastrophic clash.
