What Is Bazi?
The 1,000-Year-Old Map
of Who You Are.
Four pillars. Eight characters. A complete reading of your life — explained simply.
Start ReadingIf you've ever wondered why some people seem naturally suited to leadership while others thrive in quiet creative work — or why certain years just feel easier than others — Bazi has an answer.
Bazi (八字), also known as Chinese Four Pillars of Destiny, is a 1,000-year-old system that maps your personality, relationships, career, and life timing using just four pieces of information: the year, month, day, and hour you were born.
This guide is your starting point. No prior knowledge needed.
Why It's Called "Bazi"
"Bazi" literally translates to Eight Characters.
Your birth time is broken into four pillars — Year, Month, Day, and Hour. Each pillar has two Chinese characters: one on top (a Heavenly Stem) and one on the bottom (an Earthly Branch).
Four pillars × two characters = eight characters total. That's your Bazi.
These aren't random. Each one carries an energy — wood, fire, earth, metal, or water — and the way they interact tells a detailed story about who you are.
The Energies Behind Everything
Not materials — energy qualities. Each one produces another. Each one controls another. This is the dance behind every Bazi chart.
How to Read a Chart
Out of eight characters, one matters most: the Heavenly Stem of your Day pillar. This is you.
The month you were born determines whether your Day Master is "strong" or "weak" — which changes everything.
The relationships between your Day Master and the other characters reveal how you handle money, work, and family.
Bazi divides your life into 10-year chapters. Each brings different energies into play.

Questions
Do I need to know Chinese to learn Bazi? +
No. Every concept can be learned in English — we always explain the Chinese term and its meaning side by side.
How accurate does my birth time need to be? +
Within a two-hour window. Bazi uses 12 two-hour blocks per day. If you don't know your exact hour, you can still read the Year, Month, and Day pillars — three-quarters of the chart.
Is Bazi the same as Chinese zodiac signs? +
No. The 12 zodiac animals are only one piece of Bazi — the Earthly Branch of your Year pillar. Bazi looks at all four pillars, which is why it gives much deeper insight than zodiac alone.
Can Bazi predict the future? +
Bazi describes tendencies and timing, not fixed outcomes. It shows you the energetic patterns you're working with — when things flow easily, and when you'll face friction. What you do with that is up to you.
How long does it take to learn Bazi? +
You can read your own chart in a few weeks. Becoming fluent takes one to two years. Every concept builds on the last, so progress compounds.
